Direct Involvement of Community Pharmacists in the Care of Asthma Patients: Dream or a Reality?College of Pharmacy, University of Tennessee, Memphis; and Macrom's Pharmacy, Manchester, TN
College of Pharmacy, University of Tennessee, Memphis; and Macrom's Pharmacy, Manchester, TN Everyday community pharmacists encounter children and adults who have asthma. Pharmacists in community and ambulatory care settings are in excellent positions to provide interventions that improve the care and the quality of life of asthmatics. This can be accomplished when community pharmacists learn more about asthma therapy, identify problem asthmatics in their practices, design asthma treatment and monitoring plans, develop patient teaching programs, and overcome barriers to direct intervention in the care of these patients.
