The Use of Anticonvulsants in PsychiatryThe use of anticonvulsants in psychiatry has steadily increased in recent years. Two anticonvulsants in particular, carbamazepine (CBZ) and valproate (VPA), have become commonplace in psychiatric practice for the treatment of bipolar disorder. Schizoaffective dis order and aggression have also been treated with these agents. Indications, pharmacokinetics, drug inter actions, side effects, and monitoring of the anticonvulsants are discussed. Copyright © 1996 by W.B. Saunders Company
